I'm gonna start using Tumblr instead of Blogger for now on so I'm not going to post here anymore.

Top 10 of 2011

2011 was a great year for new releases. probably the most exciting year we've had in forever. hopefully 2012 will be great as well. i made a list of some of my favorite records along with a summary attached. apologies for my shit grammar.
Honorable mentions:
Belong - Common Era
Blues Control & Laraaji - FRKWYS Vol. 8
Death Grips - Exmilitary
Dope Body - Nupping
Connan Mockasin - Forever Dolphin Love
Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica
Rangers - Pan Am Stories
Ty Segall - Goodbye Bread
Andy Stott - We Stay Together
The Men - Leave Home
10. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Mirror Traffic
in august i went on vacation to california to attend outside lands music fest and to visit some old friends. during that trip, i felt a bit depressed and homesick. the day after the fest, mirror traffic was being streamed on npr. i listened to it two times in a row and it hit me hard. there's a few deep tracks on the record such as "share the red" that reminded me of how much i missed being home. a friend asked me about moving out to the bay area one day but i don't think i could ever do it. i'm too much of a pussy to leave all of my friends and family here in wisconsin.
9. Grooms - Prom
it took me a few listens to really fall in love with this record. it's a great late night record to drive around with your best friend or even alone. i don't really have a deep story to share about with this album but it's a really beautiful. incredibly overlooked too.
8. The Horrors - Skying
i never really got the horrors when they came out with their first record. i actually thought they looked like a bunch of idiots with their black eyeliner and crazy hair. it wasn't until primary colours that i thought these guys were fucking brilliant. they took a step forward with skying and made an incredible psychedelic record.
7. Big Troubles - Romantic Comedy
underrated britpop-esque record. i don't have much to say. just listen to it.
6. John Maus - We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves
songs was better but this is a good album too.
5. Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See
it's a good record that almost made me cry. i like the arctic monkeys a lot. i don't understand why they're opening for the black keys right now. i guess they want to break america or something but i don't really give a shit about that.
4. Iceage - New Brigade
post punk made me 18/19 yr olds. i'm jealous.
3. The Field - Looping State of Mind
a great dance album that i played out for a week straight sick in bed.
2. Atlas Sound - Parallax
bradford cox was my god in high school and he still remains my god in tech school (drop out).
1. Battles - Gloss Drop
yknow who's better than battles? no one. gloss drop is fucking amazing and it makes me want to give up making music. i won't do that but i wish i was talented as they were. i had the pleasure to see battles for free back in july and met ian williams and made john stanier smile. i love them and you should love them too. battles 4evr.
